James Horan on Armagh: 'They should have beaten Donegal last year'

Former Mayo manager James Horan is expecting a tight game on Sunday between Armagh and Donegal in the Ulster Championship Quarter Final. He was speaking to Off the Ball on Thursday night, ahead of the game.

"There's no doubt that Armagh are improving. They had a really solid year where there was a lot of progression last year. Beating Cavan and Tyrone and drawing with Monaghan.

As they admit themselves, they should have beaten Donegal. That was a real positive to bring into the off season to prepare for this season.

They have done all they could do, so far this year by winning Division 3. They've gotten Kieran McGeeney this year to really help the focus and prepare them.

They're plaving an absolute top team. In my opinion, Donegal are getting stronger and better. You have Patrick McBreary and Michael Murphy reaching their peak now. I think they're a really top team.

Armagh are going from Division 3 to one of the top guys so its going to be a real challenge for them. It's going to be an interesting game.

On the Kieran McGeeney factor, when he was in Kildare, they were consistently competitive for the six or seven years he was there, Division 1, last eight, last four of the All Ireland series. They were consistently there.

One of his main traits is that the players really buy in and are really focused with him around. He is going to add that. From what Ciaran McKeever is saying, you can sense that there is this togetherness with Armagh now. That little extra will add another string to their bow.

They are going to be really chomping when Donegal come to town at the weekend. It's going to be a fascinating one."
