'It's not just as good as it was a few years ago'

Two of Ulster's greatest ever footballers joined us live on the show in Inch, Co Kerry tonight.

Down's Mickey Linden and Armagh's Steven McDonnell had taken part in the Sam To The Summit event and after returning to sea level, the lads were ready to talk football with Ger.

Linden, who starred for Down from the early 80s to the early 2000s, and McDonnell who represented Armagh from 1999 to 2012 were asked for their thoughts on the current standards of play in intercounty football.

"There's still some good games, still very committed and still very entertaining. But for me it's not just as good as it was a few years ago," said Linden.

McDonnell added: "I will agree with Mickey. One of the main reasons I retired from intercounty football a couple of years ago was the fact that it did get so defensive and as a forward it can really drag you down. When you look at the way the league campaign has gone this year where games have been high-scoring, it would nearly tempt you out of retirement."

Both also chatted about their careers, plus Linden also detailed his post-playing adventures in athletics.
