"It's high risk. It's not something I'd do at this stage" - James Horan on Laois' Anthony Cunningham addition

James Horan feels Laois' decision to draft in ex-Galway hurling manager Anthony Cunningham as a coach this close to the championship start is "high risk".

The former Mayo manager was on Off The Ball tonight as the provincial championships begin in earnest.

Laois take on Wicklow on Saturday, with manager Mick Lillis having added Cunningham to his setup as recently as two weeks ago.

"It wouldn't be for me I'll be honest with you," said Horan.

"This time of year, a lot of the team have been together for a long time and management have been saying certain things and trying to paint a certain vision to try and get the message across, and a new guy comes in. It's high risk. It's not something I'd do at this stage."

Horan added that there is no doubt about Cunningham's ability as a coach but questioned the late timing of his appointment.

However, he added: "But maybe risk's what's needed for [Laois] right at this moment after the national league that they have had."

Niall McCoy of Gaelic Life also joined the lads to look ahead to the Ulster clash between Fermanagh and Antrim.
