The appointment of Cork legend Donal Óg Cusack to the Clare backroom team caused waves in hurling when it was announced in October.
Cusack left his position as an analyst on The Sunday Game and has stepped down as the GPA's Chairman. One of his final acts as GPA Chairman was to oversee the staging of the Fenway Hurling Classic in Boston between Galway and Dublin.
After the match last month, he spoke to Newstalk Sport's Oisin Langan about taking up his new role with the 2013 All-Ireland Champions.
"When I saw (Davy's) number come up in the phone, we missed each other on a couple of occasions. I actually said it to my dad. I said 'I've a missed call from Davy'. I said 'I think he going to ask me to get involved in Clare'. I had a strong sense of that. I'm looking forward to it."
The 38-year-old told Oisin he sees no reason why he wont get on with the current manager Davy Fitzgerald, despite the two clashing during their playing careers. "Time is too short to be worrying about things that happened in the past... Things can change and situations can change.
Cusack has been complimentary of Clare in recent years and he told Oisin that he "likes the way they play the game". "I like that team. I like those players. I like the way they seem to approach it. It's a hurling based approach."
