'I was disappointed by the lack of respect shown to us from every angle'

Wicklow manager Johnny Magee feels a level of disrespect has been shown to his side ahead of their championship opener.

The former Dublin centre-back also spoke of his "pride" in his players after they took Meath to the wire in yesterday's Leinster championship clash despite down to 13-men.

But he also had issues that he wanted to get off his chest regarding the inequality within the inter-county scene.

"I was disappointed by the lack of respect shown to us from every angle from within the county and from outside the county. It's very hard when you're being written off and not being given any chance," he told Oisin Langan on the Monday Rewind podcast.

"No county side in 2015 should be beaten by a fitter or stronger team. But with that you need to have the resources to be able to put in place to have a county team at the required level of fitness to compete the way the game has gone now and unfortunately nobody cares about what's going on in Wicklow. We don't get any exposure whatsoever whether it's in the national papers and broadcast. That's where, when you're trying to go to a sponsors and they say 'what exposure are you getting?' Whereas Dublin or any of the top division teams can say 'we'll have live games on TV and be on the front and the back of the national papers.'"
