Developments in the Galway hurling uprising continued today, as current hurling manager, Anthony Cunningham, was ratified by the county board chairman, despite the players issuing a vote of no confidence in him.
Cunningham became the first manager since Cyril Farrell to bring the hurlers to two All-Ireland finals.
Speaking on tonight's show, Daithi Reagan told Off The Ball that he did have some sympathy for Cunningham.
"I do believe Anthony's position is untenable to be honest with you" he said,
"I don't think there are as many parallels to the Mayo situation, where I can understand the Mayo situation where I can't understand this. It's the timing that confuses me.
"Personally if he wasn't up for the task, I think the Galway players would have stood up at that stage and certainly after 2014 should have said there was an issue."
While he did acknowledge that the performance in the second half of the All-Ireland final wasn't up to scratch, he believes that the timing is right with regards the current position of the squad.
"The difficulty for the players now is, after the performance this year and after the game of the year against Tipperary, you look at the age profile of the team and it looks right to go on and succeed"
"They've got a forward line that can hurt anyone" he continued, " I think certain players, certain senior players in that All-Ireland didn't stand up and take that game like Shefflin did in 2012 when he singlehandedly dragged Kilkenny back into it."
He was joined by journalist Denis Walsh on the show this evening and you can catch the full discussion by clicking below.
