Roscommon start the season on the back of an FBD League final defeat to Galway and a poor All Ireland campaign last summer.
However, with the change in management and having earned promotion to Divison 1, there is a lot to be positive about.
Karol Mannion joined Adrian and Wooly on tonight's Off The Ball to look ahead to the their opening fixture against Monaghan this Sunday in Kiltoom.
"The way they have approached the FBD league has really shown how they're going to really target the first few games in the national league " Mannion explained.
"They used a lot of players in the FBD, they didn't over extend and use their best players. Those are the same guys who they'll be looking to rely on in Division 1, so I think those are the players they'll want fresh for Sunday and into the following week against Kerry."
As well as the Ulster and Munster champions, Roscommon will be rubbing shoulders with Dublin, Cork and Donegal in the hopes of making the league final.
Mannion says new manager, Kevin McStay, has the qualities that will make him a success at Roscommon.
"Kevin, especially from his army background, is a very organised individual. He'd be a very good leader of men when he got all of us to follow him.
"He speaks very well, he's someone you respect as soon as he walks into the dressing room and importantly has a good understanding of the modern game and how things need to be done."
