'Dublin have played football at a level that I don't think has been played at before'

Former Mayo manager James Horan believes Dublin have taken Gaelic football to another level at times in recent games.

He joined us on Off The Ball to review a weekend which saw the Dubs breeze past Kildare to reach yet another Leinster final and highlighted their lofty level.

"Dublin have played football, on a couple of occasions, at a level that I don't think has been played at before. I think the tempo and their skill execution at that tempo, I don't know if it has been done in Gaelic football before," he said, although he also discussed the paucity of the challenge they face until All-Ireland semi-final time.

"When they come up against really go at them physically and have some dangerous players, you never know what can happen."

Horan was also disappointed by what Kildare offered at Croke Park in terms of approach and performance, saying that they were "tentative".

"They made Dublin look like this unbelievable machine - which they are - but they made them look a little bit better than they should have."

The ex-Mayo boss also gave his take on Westmeath's famous comeback win over Meath.

Horan, who had been critical of Tom Cribbin after the Westmeath boss criticised his own players publicly (followed by an apology as confirmed by Cribbin tonight), feels that it is a one-time thing and will have less of an impact if repeated, and that while it is important that the Westmeath players start looking towards the Leinster final.

He also feels that Meath manager Mick O'Dowd "doesn't have much time" when it comes to turning their fortunes around quickly as a qualifier arrives on the horizon, and that the players' confidence will be "fragile".
