Ex-Mayo manager James Horan expects his former team to shake off the challenge of Galway in their Connacht championship clash this Sunday.
Horan and ex-Tribesman forward Michael Meehan joined us on Off The Ball and the former was optimistic about the current provincial champions out West.
"Mayo are very strong and very experienced and I'd like to think, getting stronger and stronger. It's 10 or 11 weeks since they played and they've been looking forward over that period to getting up to Galway and taking them on. They're always great games and Galway have always had great players but I'd certainly still fancy Mayo," he said, citing the 2012 and 2013 All-Ireland finalists' power and experience.
After looking at the Tribesmen's strengths, he also concluded that Galway are "not the most defensively solid team around".
He also does not expect Galway to go for a double-sweeper system even if they have to revert to a more conservative game-plan.
Meanwhile, Meehan believes Galway will focus special attention on Cillian O'Connor because of his scoring ability from play and set-pieces.
"Galway will be looking to minimise his impact," he said, highlighting the lessons from previous matches and also discussing the rivalry between the two traditional Connacht heavyweights, and why his countymen need to stay in the game for as long as possible to overturn Mayo.
