Definitely the breaking the tables, the throwing stuff at the walls and the 'do it for me' stuff from a manager is a thing of the past.
Where things are now, you've such an educated playing group now with a lot of guys through college and a lot of guys are smart and putting in such work and commitment themselves that they are self-motivated.
The manager's role is just coordinating and making sure those things are pointing in the right direction for the right time you need to peak.
Of course, managers need to talk. It's early in the week and it's weeks before you play a big game. It's a constant message that you give through every training session.
There's always a time when you'll need righteous anger and there needs to be a passion-based talk if things are a little bit off - or even sometimes on game day if you feel that the mood of the camp is just a little bit of fraction off and you need to bring it back in.
As regards the great motivational speaker on the morning of the game or 20 minutes before a game in Croke Park and that was the difference, that for me was never the case.
