Gavin on giving Dublin's forwards "controlled freedom"

Dublin's power from the bench proved pivotal on Sunday as they beat Wexford 2-25 to 1-12 as they booked their place in the 2014 Leinster Championship final against Meath.

After the match, Off The Ball's Dave McIntyre caught up with Dublin manager Jim Gavin, who admitted that the forwards are given some leeway when it comes to chance creation.

"We do place a lot of emphasis on the creation of scoring opportunities. We give them a solid framework to play within but it's what we call controlled freedom. They all have unique skills and if the guy at the end of the move thinks a goal is on, we expect him to go for it. That's the message we send to them," said Gavin, who also praised his players' composure and also spoke about the positive use of subs.

"I think the form book goes out the window," said Gavin, of the upcoming Leinster final against Meath. "When you're talking about a Meath v Dublin clash, it doesn't matter if Meath are in form or we are in form."
