Galway claimed their tenth All Ireland Minor championships with an impressive 4-13 to 1-16 victory over Tipperary.
It was Galway's ability to convert their goal chances that proved pivotal. The sides were inseperable in the opening half with both sides exchanging points in the first 15 minutes with Tipperary edging into a two point lead.
Galway scored the first of their four goals in the 18 minute as Brian Concannon buried the sliotar into the back of the net after some poor Tipperary defending. The Premier County picked themselves up almost instantly scoring twice and bringing the game back level. The final 10 minutes of the half ended as it started as the sides exchanged points and they were leve going in at the break 1-7 to 0-10.
Galway cam out for the second half with amazing intensity causing numerous problems for the Tipp backs. Galway put away tjheir second after some direct running from Brian Concannon set up substitute Liam Forde and he finished with aplomb to give Galway a four point lead, 2-9 to 0-11.
Galway scored their third and what ultimately proved to be the crushing blow for Tipp as Cianan Fahy buries the ball past Hayes. Eight points the gap now in a devastating ten minute period from Galway.
Tipperary kept chipping away but Galway always responded and a Tipperary comeback never looked on even when Tommy Nolan goaled in the closing minutes to reduce the gap to five. Galway got their fourth as Tipperary committed men forward, another substitute, Michael Lynch with the major.
With the game well and truly over Tipp scored two consolation points as they ran out 4-13 to 1-16 winners.
