Meath put in an impressive display against Carlow as they romped home to victory at Netwatch Cullen Park.
Trailing early on, the Royals hit seven unanswered points before half time to put them in the driving seat. Benny Kavanagh struck a late goal for the home side, but it was too little too late by that stage.

Westmeath 1-14
John Connellan's goal after the break put Westmeath in control as they earned victory in Bray to get their campaign off to the best possible start. The Lake County led 0-09 to 0-06 at the interval before Connellan's strike, and they never relinquished the lead after that.

DCU eased to victory against IT Carlow in Carlow, outscoring their fellow student 2-14 to 0-01 in the second half to begin their O'Byrne cup challenge with maximum points.

Cian O'Neill got his Kildare reign off to a perfect start, with the Lilywhites dispatching DIT in emphatic fashion, with Adam Tyrrell pointing nine times. Conor Madden got the only three pointer for DIT.

Rory O'Connor's 62nd minute point gave Laois victory in a tightly contested affair in Park Ratheniska. Offaly's Luke kelly scored for the students but Jamie Farrell cancelled it out to help Laois to victory.
Longford 0-18
Maynooth University 1-09
Evan O'Carroll's first half goal failed to have the desired effect as Longford ran out six point winners in Ballymahon.
David McGiveney and Robbie Smyth both pointed five apiece to help Longford to victory.

Limerick 0-12
Clare 1-10
Tipperary 1-09
Cork and Clare both registered wins on the opening round of the McGrath Cup today.
Kevin O'Driscoll's goal was the difference as Cork claimed victory over Limerick in Mallow. The goal came after 13 minutes but Limerick refused to fold and can consider themselves unfortunate not to get something from the game.
Clare, meanwhile, had to come from behind to beat Tipp as they trailed by five at the break before Kieran Malone's late goal was enough to snatch victory at the death.

Sligo IT 0-10
Roscommon's new management team of Kevin McStay and Fergal O'Donnell got off to a winning start as they brushed past IT Sligo with Kieran Kilcline's goal helping the Rossies into a 1-12 to 0-03 lead at half time.
Roscommon pushed on in the second half with Ciaran Murtagh finising with a tally of six points to see the Primrose and Blue home.
Mayo 1-12

It was also a winning start for recently installed Mayo boss Stephen Rochford. His charges held out for a two point win after Kevin McLoughlin's goal put Mayo in front after the student took a lead into the break.
Mayo opened up a lead but Adam Gallagher's late goal ensured a tight finish.
Galway 2-09

Galway recorded a home win at Tuam Stadium with Damian Comer's goal giving the Tribesmen control of the game. Sligo fought back with niall Murphy impressing in midfield, but Enda Tierney's goal put the result beyond doubt.
Leitrim 3-16
GMIT 1-06
Emlyn Mulligan and Nevin O'Donnell saw Leitrim past GMIT in emphatic fashion, with the latter bagging two goals for himself.
Thomas O'Donnell got Leitrim's third to get as they had little trouble dispatching the students.

Goals from Ronan O’Neill, Connor McAliskey and Johnny Munroe put Tyrone in the driving seat as they crushed the challenge of the Belfast students at Healy Park.

Shane Heavron bagged two debut goals for the Oak leaf county, while Liam McGoldrick and Emmet McGuckin, also netted.
Thomas McCann got both Antrim’s goals, one in each half, to keep the Saffron's in touch, but they didn't have enough firepower to keep up with Derry.

Frank McGlynn's goal was the difference between the sides at the end of the game while Michael Murphy's late point sealed the result.

Cavan 2-08
Both sides finished with 13 men as Cavan beat Armagh at Crossmaglen, with Niall McDermott and Chris Conroy getting the goals.

Jordanstown shocked Monaghan in Clones to claim victory by 10 points.
