There was talk of Meath rocking the Dublin apple cart. There were some hopes that maybe, with the extra year under their belt, Mick O’Dowd’s team could smudge the Jim Gavin script. All nonsense, it seems. Dublin looked painfully, cruelly, almost numbingly good at Croke Park today. A fourth consecutive Leinster title, and a performance that made the men in blue look so strong you could be forgiven for wondering how long it might be before that run of provincial victories is brought to an end.
Goals from Bernard Brogan. Kevin McManamon and Eoghan O’Gara provided the bulk in a 19 point win. Brogan got 1-7 by himself, while McManamon walked away with 1-5.
The 19 point margin could have been far greater, but Dublin were actually a little wasteful in front of goal. The Dubs could have made it through the entire second half without a score, however, leading 1-12 to 0-6 at the break and holding Meath just 2 points for 27 minutes of the second half.
For anyone hoping that Dublin’s dominance in Leinster might pass soon, those hopes were dampened by the Dublin minors winning the Electric Ireland Leinster Minor Football final, beating Kildare by 3-16 to 1-12.
