Dublin GAA's bid to buy the NAMA owned Spawell Complex have been unsuccessful it has been reported.
An article in today's Irish Independent has revealed that the Dublin County Board bid more that the €6.5million asking price but lost out to a higher bidder. The County Board had pencilled in the site to build a 25,000 capacity venue.
The site's location was seen as one of the crucial factors in the bid. The Spawell Complex is located close to the M50 and also close to Ballyboden-St. Enda's and St. Jude's GAA clubs.
The County Board are not in a position to develop Parnell Park, due to it's close residential location and had hoped the south Dublin complex could be used to host matches that may have been to small to play in Croke Park.
The facility already holds an 18 hole par-3 golf course and a driving range. It also has planning permission to build a 150 bedroom hotel and leisure centre on the site that is valid until 2020.
