Donegal duo face race to be fit for All-Ireland quarter-final

Eamonn McGee will face a late fitness test to determine whether he will be fit to face Mayo in the All-Ireland quarter-final this weekend.

McGee was substituted at half-time in Donegal's qualifier win over Galway on Saturday because of an ankle injury, but Rory Gallagher will ensure he is fully it for their toughest test to date.

"Eamon rolled his ankle but it has not swollen up," Gallagher said.

"It is the same ankle he rolled against Armagh. He was back seven to 10 days training but the fact that it has not swollen would suggest he will be back in a few days."

Karl Lacey didn't feature in the qualifier over the weekend as he continues o suffer from knee ligament damage sustained in Donegal's Ulster final loss to Monaghan.

Lacey returned to light training on Sunday night and Gallagher insists that he will have an opportunity to prove his fitness.

"It was a two- to five-week injury and this is heading for three now. He's done a massive amount of rehab and he did a bit of light running on Sunday. He's at the mercy of the medical team, but he won't be risked unless he's right.

"We'll allow Karl right up until Friday. We'd hope that he'll take part on Wednesday, but the chances are improving by the day."

Donegal come off the back of an impressive win over Galway and a return to form for key footballer, Michael Murphy, while Mayo will be buoyed be a dominant display against Sligo in the Connact final.

Throw-in at Croke Park this Saturday is at 6pm.
