'Donegal back to their very best'

In the end it wasn't a classic but Donegal did manage to avenge their defeat in last year's Ulster final yesterday afternoon.

Brendan Devenney joined us ahead of the game last week and at the time felt that Monaghan would be very dangerous. Tonight he was back on to review the match and was pleasantly surprised by Jim McGuinness' side.

"I thought Donegal were a good bit ahead of Monaghan. They're still the two best teams in Ulster but I think what you've seen is the masters of the art of counter-attacking," said Devenney.

"Yesterday you saw Donegal back to their best."

Devenney highlighted the young crop players like Odhran MacNiallais and Ryan McHugh who played important roles against Monaghan.

"You've got these lads coming through now. It looked for a while in Donegal that nobody was going to come through these last couple of years. The three lads yesterday were absolutely brilliant. Top drawer. And the minor team looked awesome at times [against Armagh] yesterday as well," said Devenney, who believes an all-out defence will break the resolve of an all-out attack if Donegal and Dublin meet.

"That [Dublin] forward line will keep breaking on that Donegal defence and Donegal will break forward into the space. I'd have no doubt that they'd beat Dublin."
