Davy Fitzgerald confirmed as Wexford's new manager

Davy Fitzgerald has been confirmed as Wexford's new manager.

The Clare native, who stepped down as manager of his native county last month, was ratified as the new manager by the Wexford County Board on Friday night.

Fitzgerald's appointment came after he met six members of the Wexford Senior Hurling Management Selection Committee on Thursday afternoon including the County Chairman Diarmuid Devereux and County Secretary Margaret Doyle. The County Board confirmed that Fitzgerald was the "unanimous choice" as new Wexford manager.

The appointment is for a three-year term, with a review to take place in two years time.

Fitzgerald said: "I am really excited about this opportunity with Wexford, and I was honoured to be asked to accept the job. It’s a new challenge for me, and I’m really looking forward to it."

The Clare native led his country to All-Ireland and National League glory in recent years. He has also won a Munster title with Waterford and led the team to an All-Ireland final where they lost to Kilkenny.

Fitzgerald's tenure with Wexford will be the first time the former goalkeeper has managed in the Leinster Championship.
