Cork win All-Ireland with stunning comeback

While the Ryder Cup might have lacked for the comeback drama of two years ago, at Croke Park this afternoon Cork produced a classic of the form. Trailing by 10 points with 15 minutes to go, Eamonn Ryan’s side produced an incredible display of resilience to win the game 2-13 to 2-12, and in the process take their ninth All-Ireland Ladies SFC title in the past 10 years.

Cork looked far from their best, in particular in the first half when they hit 10 wides and went in at the break trailing by six - 1-07 to 0-04.

An early goal from Lindsay Pleat – her second of the game - set the Dubs on their way in the second half, and put them ahead by eight.

On 45 minutes Cork began the comeback with a goal from Rhona Ni Bhuachalla on 45 minutes. Nine minutes later Cork scored their second goal, this time from Eimear Scally.

The teams were tied at 2-11 and indeed Dublin were the next side to take the lead, with a point from Siobhán Woods. Cork were not to be denied however and points from O’Sullivan and Geraldine O’Flynn in the dying moments completed the dramatic comeback, and the ninth title in 10 years.
