Cork ease past Waterford, but not without Nash penalty controversy

Cork advanced to the Munster hurling semi-final with a comprehensive win over Waterford at Semple Stadium this afternoon, beating the Deise 0-28 to 0-14.

Patrick Horgan was Cork’s central figure, scoring 10 points as the entire team raised their game significantly from last weekend’s drawn game at the same venue. By the final whistle ten Cork players had their names on the score sheet.

The win sets up a repeat of last year’s All-Ireland final against Clare, next Sunday.

Anthony Nash and his penalty technique was one of the talking points of the winter in GAA circles and tensions were bound to be high the first time the Kanturk keeper lined up a shot from 20 metres.

The Cork keeper got his chance today but a determined resistance from Waterford charged down the effort, albeit it with Waterford keeper Stephen O’Keefe making it to within less than a metre of Nash by the time the shot was struck.

In the aftermath Nash was levelled by a Waterford shoulder and a brawl broke out between the two sides.
