What did Wexford get right and where did Clare go wrong?

Listen to the full interview via the podcast

Just like last year, there was little to separate Clare and Wexford as they met in the All Ireland hurling qualifiers.

2013 saw the eventual All Ireland finalists winning in extra-time at Semple Stadium, but this weekend Wexford were able to hold on to take it to a replay.

"From a Clare perspective, they should have known that with Wexford's season on the line, these guys trained extra-ordinarily hard. [Wexford manager] Liam Dunne isn't the type of person to bring out a team that would roll over and let Clare walk all over them. Clare seemed to be sluggish and there seemed to be a lethargy about them this year," said Jamesie O'Connor, who joined Daithi Regan on the line to analyse the match on Off The Ball tonight.

Daithi gave plenty of credit to Wexford and Dunne for staying alive in the tie.

"The only decision I felt Dunne got wrong was that I wouldn't have taken Rory Jacob off," said Daithi, who felt they got too narrow as the match wore on.

"But it would be churlish to nitpick as well. Pretty much they got their match ups right and attacked with a great ferocity. They showed and replicated what Cork did the last time and created difficulty for the man on the ball."

Jamesie felt that Clare's defenders were naive and feels that the Banner are missing All Ireland final hat-trick hero Shane O'Donnell.

Daithi also gave his take on the siege mentality brought by Davy Fitzgerald and the pressure on the Clare players, and feels that a manager "should dilute any scenarios of conflict."

The lads also discussed Dublin's poor performance against Kilkenny in the Leinster Final.
