Cian O'Neill claims his Kildare side wont be affected by outside pressure ahead of the National League

Kildare opened their 2016 campaign yesterday with a resounding 0-24 to 1-7 victory over DIT in the O'Byrne Cup.

The game was manager Cian O'Neill's first in charge after spending time with Eamonn Fitzmaurice in the Kerry setup as a coach and selector. This year will be O'Neill's first in charge of a senior inter-county team.

After the game in Newbridge, he spoke to Newstalk Sport's Oisin Langan about taking charge of his home county for the first time. "It's my own personal philosophy that if you can move the ball that bit faster, you create more space for yourself and with space comes scoring opportunities".

Kildare were relegated from Division 2 last year, but O'Neill claims that the team are not under pressure to gain immediate promotion from Division 3. "It's easy for people on the outside to tell us what we should be doing and how we should be doing it. Only what happens within the four walls of the dressing room, that we can really only tell where out mindset is at".

O'Neill's side are back in action on Wednesday night against Louth in Hawkfield.
