'Nobody will want to play Donegal - not even Dublin'

Listen to the full chat above via the GAA podcast which includes Wooly's post-match interview with McGuinness

Donegal’s excellent record in the Ulster Championship under Jim McGuinness continued yesterday with a 1-11 to 0-11 win over league finalists Derry.

Billy Joe Padden and our own Colm 'Wooly' Parkinson were the commentary team at Celtic Park and Wooly also caught up with Jim McGuinness after the game - which you can listen to via the podcast.

Tonight Padden and Wooly analysed Donegal's win and where it went wrong for pre-game favourites Derry.

Padden was highly impressed by McGuinness' game-plan.

"In the interview [with Wooly] Jim alluded to the way he managed the game and I think that's credit to him. He managed it really well. Even the fact that Michael Murphy came out to midfield, I think that was pre-meditated. He is such a shrewd tactician and they're so difficult to play against. No one is going to want to play against them," said Padden.

But Wooly felt the defensive system used by McGuinness was the same as last year, with personnel the only difference. He also explained how Donegal swarmed around and suffocated Derry.

The lads also discussed whether the victory means Donegal are again among the real contenders for Sam Maguire as the summer wears on.

"I think they will be a big force," said Padden. "The reality is Donegal playing well with their full complement of players fit, nobody will want to play them and that includes Dublin because they are so difficult to play against."
