Bernard Brogan on the intense competition in the Dubs' ranks

Bernard Brogan is a doubt for Dublin's Leinster Championship semi-final with a hamstring issue. But that did not prevent the sharpshooter from stepping into studio tonight to chat to Wooly.

But Brogan has zero desire to be sidelined for long given the intense competition for places in the Dubs' forward line.

"You saw it last year. I was taken off in the first 40 - 50 minutes in the first three games in the summer. If you're not doing what Jim [Gavin] wants you to do, you're off and someone can come on and do just as well, if not better. It's great to have that in the team. For me individually, it's tough," said the two-time All Ireland winner.

He believes the competition for places has kept the Dublin panel hungry at a time when Leinster has become less competitive, while the internal games within the squad help keep the entire squad sharp and focused.

Brogan also spoke about the gameplan used in the victory over Laois yesterday and also explained how manager Gavin gives the players licence to share their opinions.

He also cited victories over some of the Ulster teams during the Pat Gilroy era which helped forge the winning mentality which has served the Dubs well in recent years.

Brogan, who has never played a Championship game outside Croke Park, also spoke positively about the prospect of the Dubs playing at other grounds.
