Ballyboden's captain thought the Leinster Final was heading to extra time at the final whistle

Dublin's Ballyboden-St. Endas are the Leinster Football Champions for the first time in the clubs history.

Sadly for captain Darragh Nelson, he missed the moments of ecstasy at the final whistle as he thought the game ended in a draw with Portlaoise. "When the final whistle went, and we were celebrating, I actually thought we were going to extra time", Nelson told Newstalk Sport's Oisin Langan.

The Dublin champions defeated Portlaoise by a point in Tullamore yesterday afternoon. It finished 2-9 to 1-11 in the Offaly venue. Substitute Aran Waters was the hero for the Dublin side scoring the winning point.

After the game, Nelson spoke about the final few moments of the final when he thought the sides were level. "Aran (Waters) was in acres of space and was kinda holding the ball up. I was like 'What are we going? We have a chance to win this'. I was shouting at them 'Go for it!'. Then we got turned over... and the final whistle went and the subs ran on. Everyone was celebrating and I was like "Did we win the game?'"

Ballyboden-St Endas will face either Munster Champions Clonmel Commercials or London Champions Tir Chonaill Gaels in the All-Ireland semi final on February 13th next year.
