Updated: Armagh suspends ALL club activity following COVID-19 outbreak

Armagh GAA has suspended all club activity in the county.

It follows an outbreak of COVID-19 in the county that has affected a number of clubs.

One such outbreak led to the suspension of training by the Orchard County's senior footballers, with a number of Kieran McGeeney's panel having tested positive for coronavirus.

Armagh side are due to resume their Allianz Football League Division 2 campaign at home to Roscommon in a fortnight's time. They conclude away to Clare the following week.

News of the outbreak comes on the same day that the Northern Ireland Department of Health recorded a record number of coronavirus cases in a single day - 934.

That number is more than double the previous record set just earlier this week.

The decision to halt club activity followed a meeting of the Armagh County Management Committee on Friday evening.

County chairperson Michael Savage said, "Following an update today on the significant rise in cases across the north combined with a number of our clubs adversely impacted.

“This decision has not been taken lightly but we believe this is the right and responsible decision to safeguard our members and our communities.

“We will review this situation in consultation with Ulster GAA in the coming days and we urge all members to continue to follow the public health advice."

It's a massive blow for the Ulster GAA community, with the 2020 Championship just around the corner.

Armagh's campaign is scheduled to begin with a quarter-final against Derry in the first week of November.
