Are Armagh in trouble or are there green shoots?

Listen to the full analysis above via the podcast

So far, 2014 has not been great for Armagh. Relegated from Division 2 of the Football League, they also face a tough match against Cavan in the Ulster Championship this weekend.

But what is going wrong for the Orchard County and can they turn things around?

Tonight we spoke to ex-Armagh All Ireland winner Oisin McConville and former Armagh full forward Billy Joe Padden about the goings on in the camp.

"I still think the proof is in the pudding when it comes to the league. You have a fair crack at it. Armagh had seven games with four at home this year," said McConville.

But he believes the mood in the camp is "decent" and with "good vibes".

Padden also pondered whether the success of Crossmaglen at club level may have adversely affected Armagh with players having a longer season.

"The league is vital in some respects if you want to blood younger players because they have to get that experience in the league. Unfortunately for Armagh, some of the younger players coming through the system have not stood up yet in the Championship. I think that's the big thing for Armagh but I think that will change," said Padden, who believes Kieran McGeeney can help in that regard and McConville also added that McGeeney has brought professionalism to the setup as well as strength and conditioning.

McConville thinks Armagh will be more reactive in their approach against Cavan this year compared to the more cavalier style which failed them in 2013.
