WATCH: Forgotten Football Manager hero scores screamer in Japan

For anyone who has been playing Football Manager for the last number of years, Leandro Damiao was a sure-fire synonym for success if you could sign him up.

A Brazilian striker forever linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur that never materialised, the 31-year-old is still going strong.

Playing his football with Kawasaki Frontale in Japan's J1 League, it has never really been about what Damiao has achieved in his career for most football fans.

Where once you had Martin Palermo or Carlos Fierro, for Football Manager fans of a certain vintage there was a time when the former Brazilian international Damiao was the hottest property going.

Since those heady days at Internacional when he was making his breakthrough with Brazil things have not gone terrifically well for the striker, however.

After a range of loan spells he was eventually cut loose by Santos and is now playing his football in Japan.

Nevertheless, six games into the new J1 League season and his Kawasaki Frontale are sitting top with Damiao scoring five goals along the way.

The latest of these against Vissel Kobe is well worth a watch.

If all this talk of Damiao and Football Manager has given you a hankering to get back on the management cycle, why not download Championship Manager 01/02 and give that a go?

"I used to be an addict as many of our viewers undoubtedly have been over the years," OTB's own Nathan Murphy explained on OTB AM. "When I first met my wife, I got her to break the CD just to stop me from playing it.

"But part of me actually thinks, maybe the best thing now is to get back into Championship Manager! You can get so into it that it will just take your mind off everything else.

"Suddenly, I'm not worrying about the real world, I'm wondering is Cherno Samba going to be fit?"

If you, like Nathan, are countenancing the idea of making a return to the Championship Manager 01/02 universe, you'll be thrilled to know that you can download it and play it for free right now!
