Fonseca to be named new Tottenham boss as soon as next week

Paulo Fonseca will be the next head coach at Tottenham Hotspur.

The 48-year old has agreed a two-year deal with the Premier League club with the option of a third. Crossing of the T's and dotting of the I's on Fonseca's contract should take place by the end of the weekend.

He'll be joined at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium by Fabio Paratici.

The former Juventus Chief Football Officer will take up a similar role with the North London club.

Paratici left Juve having overseen the delivery of nine Serie A titles to the Turin club. It was there he worked with one of Spurs' previous targets for the manager's job - Antonio Conte - for three seasons.

Paratici is believed, however, to be a long-time admirer of Fonseca.

The Portuguese coach resigned his position at Roma last month where, ironically, he has been replaced by the former Tottenham head honcho Jose Mourinho.

During his first season in charge with the Giallorossi, Fonseca guided them to a fifth place finish in Serie A. In his second, they progressed to the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League where they were beaten by Manchester United.

Prior to his arrival in Rome, Fonseca had spent three seasons at the helm of Shakhtar Donetsk, winning the Ukrainian league and cup double in each of those seasons.

Top of the agenda for both Paratici and Fonseca will be convincing Harry Kane to stay with the club.

The club captain has made no secret of his desire to discuss his future at Spurs this summer, with some of Europe's wealthiest clubs hovering in wait.

The exit door at the Tottenham Stadium will be busy regardless this summer, as they need to rustle up funds for new signings.

They've already secured €15million after Europa League winners Villareal decided to make their loan deal for Juan Foyth a permanent one.

Players like Serge Aurier could also be on their way before the start of the 2021/22 campaign.
