Finland beat Denmark in game overshadowed by Christian Eriksen collapse

Finland have beaten Denmark in their Group B match at the European Championships in what was their first game at a major tournament.

The game was suspended, while scoreless, approaching half-time after Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch.

The Danish FA (DBU) has said that Eriksen is awake, stable and in a Copenhagen hospital after receiving CPR on the pitch.

The game resumed at 7.30 pm, approximately two hours after Eriksen's collapse.

This was Finland's first-ever game at a major tournament.

UEFA say the players made that decision after hearing positive news about Eriksen's condition.

Finland scored in the second half after the game got back underway with a Joel Pohjanpalo effort in the 59th minute.

In normal circumstances, one could argue that goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel could have done more in his efforts to save the header.

The danes were awarded a penalty in the 72nd minute.

Arajuri was judged to bring down Yussuf Poulsen as he chased a through ball into the penalty area from Thomas Delaney.

Pierre-Emile Hjobjerg took the spot-kick but the shot was stopped by Finland's Lukas Hradecky.

Hjobjerg never looked comfortable and like he was going to score with no conviction in the strike, understandably, his head was perhaps not in a place to concentrate.

UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin was among those wishing Eriksen "a fully and speedy recovery" on Saturday evening, tweeting;

"Moments like this put everything in life into perspective," a statement released via UEFA's Twitter page stated. "At these times, the unity of the football family is so strong and he and his family carry with them the good wishes and prayers of everyone.

"I heard of fans of both teams chanting his name. Football is beautiful and Christian plays it beautifully."
