"I reckon I am!" | Eoin Murchan, faster than Jack McCaffrey?

Eoin Murchan joined Off The Ball on Thursday as the Dublin footballer spoke about life in lockdown and Aoibheann's Pink Tie appeal.

The return of GAA to our lives is still up in the air, but if there is to be any inter-county season in 2020, it will not be until at least October as it currently stands, and likely behind closed doors.

Murchan admits scoring a goal, as he did in last year's All-Ireland final, in an empty stadium would be a strange experience.

"It definitely wouldn't be the same," admitted the Na Fianna man.

Lockdown life is very different with no group training, players are unsure where they are physically. Murchan's speed is one of his assets and when asked how it measured up to fellow Dublin speedster Jack McCaffrey, Murchan thinks he shades it.

When asked if he was quicker, Murchan replied, "I reckon so, you'll have to ask him."

A race in training with teammates to get the answer confirmed to that question may be a while away.

Fitness levels

The uncertainty for players on several levels, including how fit they are ahead of any potential return.

"It's hard to know how fit you are until you get into a game scenario really," Murchan told OTB.

"It's very different running in straight lines and chasing a ball by yourself to gets hits off people or even staying upright and focus on tackling some people.

"It's hard to tell, we'll probably need a week or two or a week when we go back in (to training) to get right back up to the speed of things.

"We have a great S&C team at Dublin and they have guided us on what we have to do and we have stuck to that as best we can, within the guidelines and within the limits of the facilities we have available.

"I hope we are in a good position, the lads have been doing the work, we're much more self-accountable than usual. Lads have been left to their own devices to keep themselves fit and they know whether they are or aren't.

"I'm fairly sure we'll be in a good place once we get the shout to go back."

AIG Insurance, proud sponsor of Dublin GAA, have teamed up with Aoibheann’s Pink Tie and the Dublin Senior Football Team to send personalised messages to children and their families battling cancer throughout Ireland.
