Chris Sutton: 'I'm worried by the England team Southgate has picked'

Former international Chris Sutton is concerned with the England team Gareth Southgate has picked for the EURO 2020 final against Italy on Sunday evening.

England's first final appearance at a major tournament since 1966, the one-capped Sutton believes Southgate has made a mistake with his approach to dealing with Italian midfielder Jorginho.

"I think he has tinkered too much here," suggested Sutton on the BBC's radio coverage of the the final.

"Who is going to look after Jorginho? He is the player who dictates the game for Italy," he stated. "Are you going to ask Harry Kane to attach himself to Jorginho?"

Resembling the England team that started against Germany in the last-16, Southgate has opted for a 3-5-2 formation.

"We cannot let Jorginho play because he will dictate rhythm of the game," insisted Sutton. "So, that would be my worry with the formation."

Content with how England will line out in the attacking sense, the former Celtic striker is wary that they will be susceptible to Jorginho's strengths defensively.

"I just wonder has Gareth with this selection handed the initiative to Italy," he warned.
