'Mum, Mum, Mum, Harry Potter is downstairs' | Davy Byrne's house party in 2012

Dublin defender Davy Byrne spoke about the time Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe arrived at his home alongside his Dublin teammates for an All-Ireland celebration party in 2012.

Speaking on Off The Ball, the five-time All-Ireland winner spoke about his county underage success and breaking onto the Dublin senior team.

After the minor title victory in 2012, Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe ended up at the house of the then All-Ireland winning minor captain in Dundrum, where a pretty memorable party got underway.

“It was so random," recalled Byrne. "The chances of that ever happening were slim. It is probably the maddest story I’ll ever have. It will never be topped.”

“It was the Monday night. We obviously won the All-Ireland on the Sunday. We were just out in town and the lads bump into him. We were planning to head back to my house afterwards.

“I was already at home and one of the players called me and said that they were in a taxi with Daniel Radcliffe and they were en route to my house. I thought it was definitely a lie until I opened the door and he was there.

“God love my parents, I didn’t have a free gaff. They were just sound enough to say I worked hard all summer and I was captain so I could keep the social side up as well.

“I remember my parents were up in bed and I went up and I started shaking my mum saying 'mum, mum, mum, Harry Potter’s downstairs.'

"She was looking at me thinking 'what type of drugs is he on?" remembered the All Ireland winner.

“They both came down. Mam makes him a cup of tea and dads doing magic tricks with him trying to impress him. It was a surreal experience.

“I would be a big Harry Potter fan so when he was over I got him to sign the final book which is kinda cool to have.

“If there was a fire in the house I had to choose between the book and the medals, I would choose the medals. But I would have to think about it.”
