Corofin make history at Croke Park as they clinch three-in-a-row

History has been made at Croke Park this evening where Galway's Corofin became the first-ever side to win three AIB All-Ireland senior football titles in a row.

They beat Kilcoo of Down on a scoreline f 1-12 to 7 points after extra time.

After a disappointing 60 minutes of play that finished up 7 points apiece extra time was required and the reigning champions showed their class.

Having not registered a score in the first 24 minutes of the game many felt the Galway kingpins had thrown this one away.

There was no such issue in extra-time though as they came out of the traps fast.

They outscored themselves in normal time and also kept Mickey Moran's side scoreless.

Conor Cunningham's goal in the first half of extra time put the westerners in the driving seat and they kicked on to see the win through and become the first club team ever to reach the impressive feat.

Speaking to Off The Ball's Maire Treasa Ni Cheallaigh at full-time Corofin forward Ian Burke found it tough to put into words just how special the moment was.

"I don't know if you'll ever get used to this. The way we did it was unreal, the atmosphere and the fans got behind us; it was just unreal, something you'll never really experience and it was just a lovely way to win our three-in-a-row.

"It's something we could never have believed would have happened. The way that we went about doing it, going to extra-time, it's a huge testament to the management team and the whole panel of players who got us over the line today.

"We thought we knew what they were going to bring and then we weren't able to break it down for large spells.

"At full-time, we said 'look there are 10 minutes here, just give it everything' and then we had a great first half, I was delighted for Conor Cunningham, I don't know would Messi have scored it the way he slotted it in."
