Chelsea confirm capture of Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen

Chelsea have completed the signing of Kai Havertz.

The Germany international has cost Frank Lampard's side an initial €80million to pry away from Bayer Leverkusen.

Havertz has signed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have been spending money like they're on a night out in Celtic Tiger Dublin over the past few months.

Hakim Ziyech (€38m from Ajax), Timo Werner (€53m from RB Leipzig), Ben Chilwell (€56m from Leicester City) and Thiago Silva (free from Paris Saint-Germain) have all arrived since the transfer window opened.

Add to those, the signings of Malang Sarr and Xavier Mbuyamba who'll spend the season out on loan.

Havertz was given special dispensation from Germany head coach Joachim Low to leave their camp prior to their Nations League game with Switzerland on Sunday. He was an unused substitute in Thursday's 1-1 draw with Spain.

"I am very happy and proud to be here," Havertz told ChelseaFC.com, "For me it is a dream come true to play in a big club like Chelsea and I can’t wait to meet all the players and the trainers. Yeah, I am very happy to be here!"

Chelsea director Marina Gravonskaia added, "Kai is one of the best players of his age in world football, so we are very happy that his future lies at Chelsea.

"He has proven pedigree in one of the best leagues in Europe, he plays for the German national side and he is an exciting, dynamic talent.

"We are delighted to be able to add his versatility and quality to the squad before the season begins."
