Celtic sign Republic of Ireland underage international Luca Connell

Scottish Premiership champions Celtic have signed Republic of Ireland underage international Luca Connell.

The Liverpool-born 18-year-old has signed for the Glasgow club on a four-year contract.

The teenager broke into the Bolton Wanderers' first team in January and made 12 appearances for the club as they were relegated to League One - finishing 12 points from safety.

The deal has gone through for a fee reported to be around €275,000.

On signing, the versatile footballer said, ""It is unbelievable to sign for such a massive club, known all around the world.

"It's a dream come true, its what you dream about when you're a little boy. It's unbelievable walking around, seeing it [Celtic Park]. I don't think I could imagine it when its full.

"A few weeks ago I heard Celtic were interested, and that's something you can't turn down. It hasn't sunk in yet that I'm signing for a club with so much history and hopefully I can help us win more."

"I'm confident. I'm looking forward to all the league games, but especially the Champions League. If I can make my debut in the Champions League, I'll need that confidence."

"I believe in myself, and my teammates. They've got a lot of history, they're half-way through making history and I believe I can help them make more history and help them win 10 in a row."

Connell qualifies to play for the Republic of Ireland through his grandparents, and joined up with the under-17 squad in August 2017.

In May 2019, Mick McCarthy gave the teenager his first call up to the senior international team, however he had to pull out of the squad due to a thigh injury.

He will join up with his new teammates at Celtic on a pre-season training camp in Austria.

Last season the Scottish champions completed a third straight treble with the club winning every domestic honour available over the past three years.
