The Olympics officially got underway today but not all the nations were fully accounted for at the opening ceremony last night.
The opening ceremony was staged last night in theatrical fashion which served as an appropriate sidebar to the ongoing doping scandals stifling the games.
Paddy Barnes led out team Ireland as the flag bearer surrounded by a fleet of participants in the ceremony dressed in colorful attire.
But there was one country who didn't have their full compliment in the Maracana Stadium last night. Team Australia were without their track and field athletes, who don't begin their events until next week.
And to compensate for their absence, they held their own ceremony to create a sense of occasion for themselves.
