The O'Donovan Brothers win silver in men's double sculls in Rio

Gary and Paul O'Donovan have finished the men's double sculls in second place.

The O'Donovans deployed their close your eyes and pull like a dog tactic and were narrowly beaten by France at the finish line with Norway in third.

The Cork men were well in contention after 500m and kept pace with the expected early leaders and continued to improve as the race progressed. It appeared as though France had pulled away but the Cork duo kept plugging away and not only closed the gap but almost defeated their opponents with Norway coming extremely close at the finish line.

The brothers qualified for the final of the men's double sculls at the Olympics in Rio with a third-placed finish on Thursday behind winners France and the United States in second.

Their father, Teddy O'Donovan was on Newstalk earlier today and spoke about how his sons would not be afraid of any crew and would relish the challenge posed by France, who started the race as red-hot favourites.
