The Kick Off: The Hurler of the Year wants changes to the Championship structure

HURLING

Hurler of the year Richie Hogan has questioned the format of the Championship.

The Cats reached the All Ireland final at the weekend after beating Waterford it what was their third Championship match of the season.

Kilkenny forward Hogan told Off the Ball the current format isn't good and leaves playeers waiting too long without matches.

SOCCER

West Brom manager Tony Pulis says he got his tactics wrong in last nights 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at The Hawthorns.

Two goals in the first half from Ya Ya Toure, although the first may be credited to David Silva, were followed by a Kompany header in the second to ease City into to the season with a comforable win.

James McClean started for the Baggies but was taken off at half time on his debut.

Later this afternoon, Wexford Youths are in action in the UEFA Women's Champions League Qualifying Round.

They've travelled to Poland for their Group 7 tie against Gintra Universitetas, which will kick-off at 2.30pm, Irish time.

RUGBY

The Ireland squad will return to training at Carton House this morning ahead of their next World Cup warm-up match against Scotland.

After the work-out, the Irish coaching staff are expected to issue an injury update on the fitness of Andrew Trimble, who is set for precautionary scans on the foot injury that he suffered during last weekend's win over Wales in Cardiff.

BOXING

There's two Irish fighters in action today at the European Elite Championships in Bulgaria.

Welterweight Adam Nolan will be first into the ring when he takes-on a Russian opponent in the last-16.

Later this evening, light-heavyweight Joe Ward will be hoping to show his gold medal credentials against a Georgian fighter.
