The Kick Off: Serena Williams aims for the history books

TENNIS

Serena Williams is targeting a sixth Wimbledon singles title today.

The World No 1 will start as the favourite to add to her haul of 20 Grand Slam titles as she prepares to face Spain's Garbine Muguruza in today's Ladies Final.

She is also hoping to manage the feat of holding all four Grand Slam titles at once for the second time in her career.

GAA

Semple Stadium in Thurles will play host to a triple-header of All-Ireland qualifiers today.

The opening game of the day there will be the Round 2B football qualifier between Tipperary and Louth, which throws-in at 2:45pm.

After that, the action switches to hurling, with a qualifier double-header at Semple.

Dublin will face Limerick in the opening Round 2 qualifier from 5pm, before the all-Munster clash of Cork and Clare, which will get underway at 7PM.

Dublin v Limerick is live on Off The Ball with commentary from Dave McIntyre, Eoin Kelly and Daithi Regan.

The rest of today's Qualifier action is in football.

The first of the Round 2B match-ups is in Owenbeg, where Derry will play host to Wexford from 2pm

There is also a potentially fascinating match-up between Tyrone and Meath at Healy Park in Omagh to look forward, with the match getting going at 3pm.

There is also one game in Round 3A of the All-Ireland Qualifiers as Longford go up against Kildare at Cusack Park in Mullingar from 7pm.

The Liberty Insurance Senior Camogie Championship also promises plenty of action this afternoon.

In Group 1, Cork will face Offaly at Pairc Ui Rinn, where throw-in is at 2pm, while Wexford play host to Galway from 3.45pm.

In Group 2, a 2PM start in Newmarket on Fergus, sees Clare going up against Dublin.

And there is a 2.30pm throw-in between Kilkenny and Tipperary in Freshford.

GOLF

Shane Lowry and Graeme McDowell are both in contention heading into the third round at the Scottish Open.

As they continue their preparations for next week's Open championship, the pair will both start in a share of second place on eight-under par behind England's Daniel Brooks who has a three shot lead on 11-under.

Michael Hoey and Padraig Harrington are also in today's field.

Hoey is on 5-under, while Harrington will be the first of the Irish players to tee-off when he resumes from 4-under par.

CYCLING

Stage 8 of the Tour de France will feature the first real uphill finish of this year's race.

The short but steep Mûr-de-Bretagne will be the final challenge for the riders and could give the likes of Dan Martin a chance of a stage win.

Team Sky's Chris Froome starts the day in the race leader's yellow jersey.

SOCCER

There are three games this evening in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.

Mick Cooke takes charge of Bray Wanderers for the first time as they host Derry City at the Carlisle Grounds, where kick-off is at 5.45pm.

Limerick go up against Galway United from 6.30pm at the Markets Field, while Sligo Rovers host Longford Town at The Showgrounds from 7.45pm.

The First Division has also got a match as Cobh Ramblers clash with Wexford Youths at St. Colman's Park from 7.45pm.

CRICKET

Australia will have to produce the third highest run-chase in Test history if they are to win the First Test of this year's Ashes series.

At the start of the penultimate day in Cardiff, the Aussies will have to score 412 to beat England, who were bowled for 289 for their second innings yesterday.

RACING

Racing this afternoon takes place in Tipperary.

The Grade 3, Kevin McManus Bookmakers Grimes Hurdle is the feature on today's card with trainers Gordon Elliott and Willie Mullins both have two runners in the field.

The in-form Elliott stable features Taglietelle and Bayan, while Mullins saddles top-weight Thousand Stars and Ruby Walsh's mount Diakali.

The first of seven races goes to post at 2.05pm.
