The Kick Off: Rain halts play at St Andrews

GOLF

Rain has halted play at the start of day two of The Open at St Andrews.

Dustin Johnson holds a one-shot lead on -7 heading into today's round at the Old Course.

The American is one clear of a group of six that includes Retief Goosen and 1999 winner Paul Lawrie.

Johnson will be among the late starters, and again plays with the well-placed Jordan Spieth.

The Masters and US Open champion is -5.

Of the Irish players, Padraig Harrington will be the first to tee off this morning when he resumes from level par.

Amateur star Paul Dunne is the best-placed of the Irish players as he'll return to the course after 12 this morning looking to build on his -3 round of 69 yesterday.

Graeme McDowell will also resume from level par with Shane Lowry and Darren Clarke another shot further back.

GAELIC GAMES

Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice has done some tinkering ahead of tomorrow's replayed Munster football final with Cork.

Aidan O'Mahony and Paul Murphy return to the Kingdon defence, while Anthony Maher starts in midfield and Paul Geaney comes into the full-forwards.

Meanwhile, Paul Galvin has been named among the replacements.

After their fine showing last time out, Brian Cuthbert has named an unchanged Cork side for that game.

Mickey Harte's Tyrone make two changes for Saturday's All Ireland qualifier against Tipperary.

Tiernan McCann and Darren McCurry have both been restored to the Tyrone attack at the expense of Richard Donnelly and Barry Tierney.

In hurling, Limerick will face Clare in the final of the Bord Gais Energy Munster Championship.

The young Treatymen held out for a 3-16 to 3-14 win over Tipperary at the Gaelic Grounds last night.

SOCCER

There was Europa League disappointment for UCD and Shamrock Rovers last night.

The Hoops will have it all to do in next week's second qualifying round second leg, after losing 2-0 at home to the Norwegians, Odd.

Meanwhile, a late goal sank the Students with Slovan Bratislava notching a 1-0 win in Slovakia.

CYCLING

Chris Froome remains in the race leader's yellow jersey, while Dan Martin is 22nd at the start of Stage 13 of the Tour de France.

After the turbulence of the Pyrenees, it's a comparitively sedate 198km trek from Muret to Rodez

CRICKET

John Bracewell's side face Hong Kong in Malahide, where play is due to begin at 2.15pm.
