The Kick Off: Deja vu for Celtic as they suffer Champions League Play-off exit

SOCCER

Celtic have lost out on nearly €30,000,000 by failing to reach the group stages of the Chmapions League.

The Bhoys lost 2-0 to Malmo in the second leg last night meaning they go out 4-3 on aggregate.

The SPL champions will now take their place in the Europa League group stage.

Manchester United take a 3-1 lead to Brugge tonight for the second leg of their play-off round tie.

United are looking to return to the group stages after missing out on the tournament last season.

HURLING

Kilkenny manager Brian Cody has confirmed that Eoin Larkin will be fit for the All Ireland final with Galway on Sunday week.

The former player of the year damaged his thumb in a training game at the weekend but the Cats boss says he'll be ready for the decider.

The manager says at the moment they can't rule Jackie Tyrell in or out as he recovers from a stress fracture while Richie Power is training and maybe considered for the final.

ATHLETICS

It's been a busy morning for the Irish at the World Championships in Beijing.

Ciara Everard finished last in her heat for 800 metres heats - while in the mens 110 metres hurdles Ben Reynolds came 7th in his his heat which wasn't enoiugh to qualify.

Later today, Kelly Proper will compete in the Women's 200 metres heats shortly after noon, Irish time.

CYCLING

Nicolas Roche remains in third place overall at the start of Stage Five of the Vuelta a Espana.

After his fourth place finish yesterday, the Team Sky rider is just 12 seconds behind overall leader Esteban Chaves.

Today's stage is a pancake-flat route that is likely to finish in a sprint finish.

HORSE RACING

There's racing in Bellewstown this afternoon where the first of an eight-race card goes to post at 4.05pm.
