The Kick Off: Can Paul Dunne make history at The British Open

GOLF

Greystones golfer Paul Dunne can make history today by becoming the first amateur since Bobby Jones in 1930 to win the Open Championship.

He goes into today's final round on 12-under par and with a share of the lead.

Louis Oosthuizen  and Jason Day join him at the top of the leaderboard.

And, speaking after carding a 66 yesterday, Dunne says he hasn't even thought about where he wants to finish this evening.

Jordan Spieth is lurking just behind at 11-under, while Padraig Harrington is next back, on 10-under.

The Stackstown golfer is in pursuit of his third Open title.

Elsewhere, Graeme McDowell is out of contention but will be looking to end this tournament with a flourish - He's on 2-under par.

CYCLING

It's Stage 16 of the Tour de France with today providing one of the last chances for the long breakaway specialists.

The riders make the 201 kilometre trip from Bourg-de-Péage to Gap today.

It could be an interesting finish for the sprinters in range, though, as the last stretch of road is one big straight.

Chris Froome is 3 minutes and 10 seconds clear at the top of the general classification, with Dan Martin in 34th.

Nicolas Roche is in 40th place, and Sam Bennett in 171st.

RACING

Today's action is at Ballinrobe, where the first of a 7-race evening card goes to post at 6
