The Final Whistle: Dan Martin signals faith in Team Sky

CYCLING

Dan Martin says that he has no reason to doubt the performances of Team Sky after Chris Froome's victory in the Tour de France.

Froome regained the yellow jersey that he won in 2013 after a 72 second victory in this year's race.

The Team Sky leader and his team-mates were subjected to verbal and physical abuse from fans during this year's race.

But Martin says that he has got no reason to question the achievements of Froome.

He was speaking to Off The Ball tonight and you can listen to the full interview via the podcast:

Irish cyclist Ciaran Kelly has been handed a four-year suspension after testing positive for the banned substance, Clenbuterol.

The former professional tested positive for the banned steroid after an in-competition test on April 20th 2014 during a three-day race in Wexford.

Kelly has been handed an increased sanction of four years after the Disciplinary Panel ruled that he had failed to respect the provisional suspension imposed on him by Cycling Ireland.

During the disciplinary hearing, it emerged that Kelly took part in an officially sanctioned race in Ireland in March of this year.

RACING

Dermot Weld is already leading the trainers standings after the opening day of this year's Galway Racing Festival.

Weld and long-time jockey Pat Smullen teamed up for both wins as True Solitaire won the Claregalwayhotel.ie E.B.F. Maiden and Harasava claimed the Colm Quinn BMW Handicap.

However, the feature race on the opening day evaded Weld's runners as the Jessica Harrington-trained Modem won the Connacht Hotel Qualified Riders Handicap, with the trainer's daughter, Katie, emerging as the winning jockey.

GAA

The GAA has finalised the fixture details for this weekend's action in the All-Ireland football championship.

Saturday's double-header at Croke Park had already been confirmed, with Sligo going up against Tyrone at 4pm, followed by the meeting of Donegal and Galway at 6pm.

The first of this year's All-Ireland quarter-finals will be held on Sunday, also in Croke Park.

Kerry will go up against Kildare in the opening match at 2pm.

That will be followed by the meeting of Dublin and Fermanagh from 4pm.
