The man who is widely expected to become the next head of the IAAF has described the latest doping allegations leveled against athletics as a "declaration of war.''
Seb Coe, who is a vice-president of the world athletics governing body, has vigorously defended the Federation's drug-testing system and says it is time to "come out fighting" to protect the reputation of the sport.
Coe has told the Associated Press, that he takes "grave exception" to the reports by German broadcaster, ARD and The Sunday Times, alleging that the IAAF had failed to act on suspicious blood tests involving over 800 athletes over a 10-year period.
He says that it "is a seminal moment" and that they "cannot be portrayed as a sport that is in any way dragging our heels."
Former Irish race walker, Olive Loughnane was upgraded to a gold medal at the 2009 World Championships after her Russian opponent was exposed as a doper.

SOCCER
Sligo Rovers have announced the appointment of Micky Adams as their new manager.
The former Southampton and Leeds player has been appointed to take charge immediately, with Alan Rogers joining the club as his assistant manager.
Adams has a long managerial record, including stints at Brighton, Leicester City, Coventry and Port Vale.
His most recent spell in charge was at Tranmere Rovers, who he left in April of last year when the club was at the bottom of the Football League.
