Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic eased past their first round matches this afternoon.
Nadal, who is bidding for his 10th French Open title, faced Benoit Paire. It took the Spaniard less than two hours as he beat the Frenchman 6-1,6-4,6-1.
After breezing through the first set, things got a little tricky for Nadal in the second as he went 3-1 down and was a point away from going 5-3 down. Fortunately for him, Paire could not take his chances. Rafa will now face Robin Haase in the second round.
Djokovic’s new partnership with former tennis legend Andre Agassi got off to the perfect start today.
The Serb, who recently parted ways with his long term coaching team, won in straight sets start against Marcel Granollers 6-3,6-4,6-2.
Djokovic will face Portuguese player Joao Sousa on Wednesday in the next round.
If things go according to plan Nadal and Djokovic will meet in the semi final.
Andy Murray will be in action tomorrow for his first round match against Andrey Kuznetsov.
The Scot has been struggling to find form of late and has suffered defeats in the Italian Open, the third round of the Madrid Open and the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters.
