Sarah Rowe 20x20 training competition winner announced

GAA and AFL star Sarah Rowe dropped virtually into Off The Ball on Tuesday to unveil the lucky winner of OTB's 20x20 competition.

Another Sarah scooped the prize of three weeks mentoring and training with Rowe, Sarah Delaney from Kildare who plays GAA, Rugby, Basketball and loves horseriding too.

Delaney one day hopes to follow in Rowe's footsteps and play AFL down under.

"I'd love to better myself in all the sports I take part in and still get the enjoyment out of it down the line," said Delaney.

"I would love to play AFL, that's the perfect mix for me so I would definitely love to try that in the future.

"I would love to pull on the green jersey of Ireland and definitely try to get to Australia too."

Sarah Rowe will be at Sarah's beck and call for the next three weeks, to try to get those ambitions put in motion.

The competition was part of the #NoProvingJustMoving campaign, which is encouraging women to get active and is the latest chapter in the 20x20 movement.

#NoProvingJustMoving is to shift the focus from exercise being a chore to a gift that you give to yourself, in order to positively change the outlook on one's future.

20x20

The 20x20 campaign aims to create a cultural shift in our perception of girls and women in sport.

We’re making some noise because, as the 20x20 phrase goes: "if she can’t see it, she can’t be it."

20×20 has three targets to reach by the end of 2020:

  • 20% more media coverage of women in sport
  • 20% more female participation at player, coach, referee & administrative level
  • 20% more attendance at women’s games and events

20×20 is alive on Social Media: TwitterFacebook & Instagram

20×20 is about creating a more inclusive, healthier Ireland – it’s not a ‘women for women’ initiative; it’s an ‘all of society for all of society’ movement. We’re asking all sections of Irish society to Show Your Stripes and pledge one small action to support women and girls in sport and physical activity in Ireland.
