OTB TV | 5 Things to watch and stream this weekend

Resident OTB TV critic Sue Murphy dropped into Thursdays OTB AM where she gave viewers a steer on what to watch over the next few days.

In between boasting about the four television sets she has set up around her house. Sue gave us five things to cast our eager eyes over this weekend, or at least until she next visits with more top quality OTB TV recommendations. [Thursday, it is every Thursday]

Wandavision, Disney Plus,

This is one of those series episodes now available (this is good. I actually thought if I saw another superhero film I was going to be committed.)

Yes, it is a Marvel series, but no, it's nothing to do with Avengers in cloaks saving the universe. Instead it's a sideways reinvention of the superhero genre that plays like a (mostly) black-and-white 1950s American sitcom — except with hints here and there that something isn't right in this apple-pie world.

For reasons that will presumably become clear, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and the android Vision (Paul Bettany) are living the dream suburban life in the town of Westview, as if undercover in some parallel Dick Van Dyke Show universe. The retro feel is very cleverly done, even if it remains to be seen where it's all heading.

One Night In Miami, Amazon Prime

One Night in Miami is a fictional account of one incredible night where icons Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown gathered discussing their roles in the civil rights movement and cultural upheaval of the 60s.

The Investigation, starts Friday, BBC Two

New series. Copenhagen chief of homicide Jens Moller learns of a missing Swedish journalist who has not returned from interviewing the designer of a home-made submarine.

Initial garbled reports indicate that she and the designer have returned to harbour, but this proves to be false, as only the designer is rescued before the vessel sinks.

A search for the woman is launched, but Moller decides to charge his suspect with murder, despite the lack of a body. Months of intricate detective work follow to ensure that justice is obtained. Soren Malling stars in this drama based on a true story

Modern Love, Amazon Prime

Sue claims to have watched about 7 episodes. It is addictive. Can be sort of cheesy in parts but it’s based on true stories and really enjoy it. Some much-needed lockdown escapism for the OTB TV chief.

Modern Love is an American romantic comedy anthology web television series, based on the weekly column published by The New York Times. It is different stories in each episode and there are plenty of familiar faces throughout.

The Missing, Amazon Prime

It is a BBC production so Sue is delighted it popped up on Amazon Prime having disappeared from the iPlayer, a service difficult to gain access to in Ireland.

"I am obsessed with this. I think the second series is better than the first but it’s so good. There’s another tie-in called Baptiste on Netflix," according to the OTB TV guru.

The Missing is a British anthology drama television series written by brothers Harry and Jack Williams.

The first eight-part series, about the search for a missing boy in France, was directed by Tom Shankland.
The second eight-part series, about a missing girl in Germany, was directed by Ben Chanan.
