Need To Know: Double gold for Ireland's boxers, Lee's title fight moved and Richie Hogan's controversial comments

Boxing

It was an eventful week in terms of Irish boxing both professional and amateur, as Michael Conlon and Joe Ward picked up two gold medals at the European Elite Boxing Championships. In particular, Ward was outstanding and put on a real display of his ability against his opponent Peter Mullenberg of the Netherlands.

Andy Lee's title fight, meanwhile has been moved from Limerick as a result of Lee needing more time to recover from a virus. The fight will now take place in October in Manchester, and while Lee apologised to Irish fans, Frank Warren spoke to Off The Ball about the situation.

UFC

Conor McGregor's title fight against Jose Aldo in December looks to be getting bigger by the day, and another huge fight was added to the card at UFC 194, which is set to take place in Las Vegas. While a match involving Ronda Rousey had been touted, another much-anticipated fight will see Chris Weidman defend his middleweight title against Luke Rockhold on the night too.

Ahtletics

There were more developments in the doping scandal that has shrouded athletics this weekend as The Sunday Times revealed that the IAAF had attempted to supress a study from a German university into doping at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu. The Sunday Paper Review panel on Off The Ball with Tommy Martin and Mario Rosenstock turned their attention to the topic this afternoon as they looked at what it meant for the troubled sport.

NFL

The big talking point int he NFL this week was as a result of a fight in training camp between two team-mates on the New York Jets. The dispute began over a debt of $600 owed by quarterback Geno Smith, and second year linebacker IK Enemkpali confronted him about it.

It resulted in what head coach Todd Bowles called a "sucker punch", and left Smith with a broken jaw, ruling him out for 6-10 weeks. He's already back passing the ball with team-mates, but there may be implications for him and his career, as he seemed to be barely hanging on to the starting place with the team as it was. Enemkpali was cut by the Jets, and has since been signed by the Buffalo Bills.

GAA

Richie Hogan spoke to Off The Ball this week and stated that he hates the current structure of the Championship. That has since generated plenty of comment, but Hogan pointed out that the problem is with the number of games and the fact that some teams will end up playing a huge amount more than others: "I'd rather have a match every two weeks. [This year, we've] played three games and we're in an All-Ireland final. Last year, after three games, we were in a Leinster final so it's a stark contrast".
