It's one year to the Olympics, but is host city Rio de Janeiro ready?

Today marks one year to the start of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.

Preparation has come under scrutiny in recent days with the news that a report found some waterways to be used in the Games are of a poor quality and could cause illness.

So, is Rio de Janeiro ready for the Olympics?

Orla Chennaoui a reporter with Sky Sports News, who is in Rio at the moment, spoke to Newstalk Breakfast this morning about the Olympics and the city.

She stated: "It's probably unanswerable at this stage.

"The good news is a good chunk, a decent amount of venues are already ready or at least they will be by the end of this year or next year but there are still some big question marks over other venues, athletics for examples, the shooting range.

"If you compare it to London for example, a year before London, we were looking at 80% of everything being ready, in Rio we're looking at 60%. That's still a decent chunk of work that has to be done."

Orla also detailed some of the issues around the water supply.
